To date, I've written three short stories, one novella, a song and a graphic novel script featuring my character Caylen-Tor. I'll upload preview excerpts of the stories in due course. In the meantime, here's a more detailed look at an awesome piece of Caylen-Tor concept artwork, rendered by the prodigiously talented artist Martin Hanford.

Concept Artwork
Joachim Blokk wields a fearsome array of weaponry with which he dispatches his vampyric foes. In the prose stories, he uses a specially customized four barreled flintlock to devastating effect, along with a selection of other bladed and projectile weapons. Here are some concept illustrations of his firearms rendered for the forthcoming comic strip. (Artwork by Martin Hanford)

More artefacts from the Vault...
Here’s the original rough sketch by Martin Hanford for the classic “The Crows Will Pick Your Bones Clean” warrior shirt and flag. This draft of the preliminary illustration does not feature the shield which appeared in the final version, because at this stage in the design’s evolution Martin was considering having a bird of prey, such as a hawk or a falcon, perched on the character’s hand. Ultimately, Martin and I decided to go with a shield. The final version of the artwork as it appeared on the textile poster flag is shown below the sketch.
Below is the rough illustration for the “Future Era Caylen-Tor” design by Martin Hanford, which appeared on the classic “Bow, Yield, Kneel” shirt and also in the digipak re-release of “The Power Cosmic”. I asked Martin to add a helmet to the character, and he sent me illustrations of several brilliant helmet designs to choose from. The final lupine helmet design was chosen to reflect Caylen-Tor’s status as “The Wolf of the North”. The finished version of the artwork, painted on a watercolour board, appears below the preliminary sketch.

From the Bal-Sagoth Vault...
Here are some interesting artefacts from the Bal-Sagoth archival vault...
This is the original rough sketch for the "Starfire..." cover which artist Joe Petagno sent me for approval back in 1996.
Below is the original preliminary pencil version of the Caylen-Tor illustration by Samuel Santos. The final version of this illustration appears on the "Starfire Elite Guard" t-shirt.
Here's one of the rough sketches for the cover of "The Power Cosmic", featuring concept art for the character Zurra, which Martin Hanford sent me for approval back in 1999.
Below is one of the rough concept sketches for the "Atlantis Ascendant" album cover which Martin Hanford sent to me back around 2000.
And this is a preliminary version of the revised "Sigil of War" design by Martin Hanford dating from 2000. The final version of this design appears on the album "Atlantis Ascendant" and is also currently available as a textile poster flag from Razamataz.

Short Stories and the Lexicon
Bal-Sagoth the band is just one facet of the vast and far reaching world of these stories. The lyrics of the six albums are reflections of a much larger and more intricate body of work, and only a relatively small part of that has thus far been revealed in the lyric booklets. As I originally intended, the chronicles of this baroque fantasy world will ultimately encompass such things as prose short stories, graphic novels, illustrated books, and more. Additionally, the forthcoming revised and expanded edition of my Glossary (called “The Lexicon”) will provide readers with unprecedented information on all aspects of the lyrical mythos. The lyrics of the Bal-Sagoth hexalogy can be read at www.bal-sagoth.com, www.bal-sagoth.co.uk and www.byron-a-roberts.co.uk.
This is the map detailing the world in which the antediluvian era stories take place.

Soon to be appearing in short stories is my character CAYLEN-TOR, who first appeared in the lyrics of the second BAL-SAGOTH album. This character has proven to be a fan favourite over the years, and his adventures are set to continue soon. Here is a selection of illustrations featuring Caylen-Tor, beginning with my original character sketch upon which all subsequent renditions were based.

And here is a larger picture of the awesome version by Samuel Santos (which is now available as a t-shirt.):

Here is a collection of illustrations featuring The King of Hyperborea. Included here are my two original character sketches, featuring the King both as an older, bearded warrior and also as a younger man, followed by a selection of great pieces by Martin Hanford, Simon Lee and Samuel Santos. "Ride them down!"

And here is a great sketch by Samuel Santos depicting my character Lord Angsaar, the Dark Liege of Chaos.

And this is the original preliminary rough sketch of the Lord Angsaar painting which appears in the limited edition digipak release of "The Power Cosmic". Artwork by Martin Hanford:

Here's a great illustration by Martin Hanford of my character Professor Caleb Blackthorne III:

This is a great illustration of one of the Guardian Spirits of Ur, the fearsome yet alluring entities which safeguard the sanctity of the city's hidden catacombs and the terrifying lore contained therein:
